Introduction
Faculty members are actively involved with schools in
collaborative projects and/or serve in a consultative capacity, as
well as provide supervision and mentorship of student research projects
as part of ongoing outreach efforts. NSSE staff also provide intensive
training and tutelage to students representing Singapore at various
science Olympiads.
Coordinator for Outreach programmes in NSSE is A/P
Chia Tet Fatt.
Student Research Projects
Faculty members supervise and mentor individual and group
projects for students involved in science research and enrichment programmes
at all levels. These projects are generally conducted in conjunction
with ongoing investigations in their respective research laboratories.
Students are hence able to interact with academics, research staff
and graduate students while undertaking cutting-edge research work
in natural sciences and science education.
Some student groups may
take up these internships as part of their school's enrichment programmes,
while many do so under the auspices of formal research programmes.
Most projects are then submitted to local and international science
competitions, where they have garnered numerous awards
and prizes.

International Science Olympiads
The active participation of faculty members in the grooming and training
of school and junior college students has resulted in many successful
teams sent to prestigious international science competitions and olympiads.
These teams have done Singapore proud by bringing back multiple medals
and awards. Some of the competitions we have been involved in are:
Our staff were also on the steering and organising
committees of the IPhO
2006 held in Singapore from 8 to 17 July 2006.
